The Longmont Printing Story

Joe and Lucy Thies located to Longmont from Chicago, IL in 1983. They new right off this was the town where they wanted to work, play, and raise a family.  They founded their first printing company in 1988 with one printing press (refurbished in their garage) and over the years created a thriving business in Broomfield, Colorado. When the opportunity presented itself in 2006 to purchase a printing company in Longmont, they made the purchase. The new company was renamed Longmont Printing. They ran both companies together for a few years before selling the Broomfield company and investing exclusively in Longmont’s dynamic economy.

The couple’s work experience over the years has been diverse, and leaving them uniquely qualified to “master the trade”.  Joe is a fine artist who has also worked as a service technician in the repair of printing and copying equipment, and as pressman and general manager for 2 local printing operations. Lucy’s experience as an office manager, in accounting, book keeping and sales has rounded out and made possible their eventual self employment. Over the last three decades they have worked together to mastered all phases of print production as well as facilitate the transition to the digital platforms of the industry.

The Family

All the Thies children have grown up in printing and helped out at the shop throughout the years. They all are familiar with the printing trade. In a small company one must learn to wear many hats!

Eric Thies joined the company 2006. He has learned all the various day to day operations of the company, with a particular love for sign and vehicle graphics production. He is the company’s go to person for wide format printing and is working toward becoming an Avery Dennison and 3M Certified Graphics Installer.

Ann Marie Thies is Longmont Digital Printing’s latest family addition. Starting full time in 2016. She brings her fine arts skills, as well as a strong background in customer service to the company. Ann works in our Graphics Department, as well as doing vinyl installations on vehicles and signs.

Kyle Thies is currently employed as a professional alloys welder. Although he does not work full-time at Longmont Digital Printing, he has been involved in projects requiring metal fabrication such as signage and wall art.
